Everyone is familiar with the vine and
branch analogy used by Jesus in chapter 15 of John's gospel. Jesus
calls himself the vine and his Father the Vine Dresser. We as
believers are the branches of the main vine and if we remain
connected to it we bear fruit.
Between THEE and me
Reverence of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. --Proverbs 1:7

Hiring a Levite
In the 17th and 18th chapter
of Judges, we read about Micah who made himself a god out of
melted down silver shekels. (Let's overlook the literalness of
making shekels into a god for a moment!) Micah tried to do right by his new
god: he made an ephod and even set up one of his sons as priest to
make offerings to this new god.

Go fetch!
My parent's dog, Gus, LOVES to play fetch.
He'll run after anything you throw--a tennis ball, a stick, a pinecone--anything!! (Now he doesn't love to bring it back to you, that's another story!) He sits at your feet, staring intently at you as you cock your arm to throw that Wonderful Thing. He's pretty good about not letting you fake him out. He won't go until he sees that Wonderful Thing fly from your hand. Nothing will distract him from staring at you and the Wonderful Thing.

Do you have a big BUT?
"I like big butts, and I cannot lie;
other brothers can't deny..."
If you're a child of the 80's you now hate me! Good luck trying to get that out of your head.
However, the Lord does not like big "but"s. When He tells us to do something he expects us to do it....without question or delay.

Filthy Rags and Fake Flowers
Driving through Edgewood after my tuesday morning bible study last February, I came upon a house that had a very unusual tree in its yard. Now February in Texas is not like February in other parts of the country...Spring has sprung by then and trees are just beginning to flower. Well the tree in this yard had hundreds of bright red flowers all of over it. It was shocking in its abundance and brilliance. Seen from down the street it was a sight to behold!

Mother's Day Testimony
Bridget and I were asked to speak at church on Sunday about the power of a Mother's prayer. Here is the text of what the Holy Spirit led me to say:
I once was what our Edgewood friends call necia. A busybody—a very controlling, manipulative person, who's always up in other people's business. As a result, I was more concerned with what my “heathen” family members were doing that what I was doing. One day while in my aquatic prayer closet, what you call a shower, I was complaining to the Lord about my recalcitrant family when He spoke to me as clearly as I'm speaking to you. He said “you take care of you and let ME take care of them”. Basically He told me to mind my own business—to stop being so necia!

Hard to Ignore
Studies have shown that the sound of a crying baby is physically impossible for people to ignore. The Lord made us in such a way that we MUST respond when we hear that sound. You know what other sound we MUST respond to? The sound our cell phone makes when we have a new text message or the notification sound when someone posts about us on Facebook. You're lying if you don't admit that when your phone goes "ding" ( or "boink" or "gong" or whatever your phone does to get your attention) you jump and run to see who it is and what they want.
